Overall, it's a vibrant tequila, with a citrus (almost tropical) note, fresh herbal tones and a peppery finish that pair perfectly with bittersweet taste of tonic water. Add a grapefruit wedge to garnish.
El Rayo is made from a blend of highland and lowland 100% blue agave, grown for over eight years. The blend is roasted for 12 hours before being shredded and fermented. It's then twice distilled in 105-year-old copper stills.
El Rayo was created by Peckham-based Londoner's Tom Bishop and Jack Vereker who worked with Maestro Tequilero Oscar Garcia to produce their vision of a unique and modern tequila.
The brand’s name "El Rayo" (lightning), alludes to the famous Mexican folk tale of lightning striking the blue agave. According to folklore, the cooked agave plant was discovered and tequila was born.
